Miller and Brunson win their respective age groups in the 2010 Arkansas BASSMASTER Junior State Championship.
Rogers, AR, April 18, 2010: The best junior anglers in Arkansas descended on Beaver Lake this past weekend expecting to find bedding fish and fish up shallow everywhere. However, as so many times in the past on Beaver Lake, Mother Nature was going to make things interesting. A cold front passing through on Friday and Saturday changed the fishing drastically from Saturday to Sunday making much of what was learned on Saturday irrelevant. The tough conditions played right into the hands of two local competitors. Chaz Miller of Fayetteville won the 15 to 18 age group with a five fish limit weighing 8.00 pounds while Trevor Brunson of Lowell took top honors in the 11 to 14 age group with 4 fish weighing 7.86 pounds. They both advance on to the BASSMASTER Federation Nation Central Division Championship on Table Rock next month where they will represent Arkansas as part of the Arkansas State Team and compete against the top junior anglers from seven other states and Mexico.
Cody Cathart of Sheridan came in a close second in the 15 to 18 age group with 5 fish weighing 7.83 pounds. Third place and Big Bass honors in the 15 to 18 age group went to Jonny Schultz of Maumelle with three fish weighing 6.50 pounds. Jonny’s Big Bass for the older age group weighed in at 2.69 pounds. TJ Miller of Breenbrier and Dustin Blevins of Harrison rounded out the top 5 with 4.30 pounds and 2.26 pounds respectively. In the 11 to 14 age group, Warren Bassinger of Magnolia came in second and was the only angler in this age group to bring in a limit with 5 fish weighing 7.00 pounds. Springdale’s Tyler Ridenoure finished third with 3 fish weighing 4.04 pounds. Cameron Nesterenko of Little Rock not only brought in the largest bass in the younger age group, his 3.63 pound largemouth was the largest fished weighed overall. Cameron also finished fourth in the 11 to 14 age group. Last year’s winner Ralston Lusby of Hot Springs rounded out the top five with 3 fish weighing 3.43 pounds.
