THE SPAWN IS ON!!!

As I pulled away from the office it was 2:30 p.m. and I felt like I was in high school ditching my last class. Except, I wasn't into bass fishing back then.

We put in at Prairie Creek and the water was clear and 57 degrees. Right away, with the 85 degree blue bird skys, I knew where I was going. To the backs of the creeks. I was going to work my way out until I found some fish. And start looking for bedders...

As I shut the big motor down and picked up a 1/2 oz. Grant Goldbeck Signature Series OMEGA Flippin' Jig (Watermelon Red) I noticed the water temp was climbing into the low 60's and my mouth started salivating as I scowered the bank for beds. I flipped my way around a secondary point with no action on the jig and knowing the local pressure was high in the area from the weekend before, I went for the 5/16 oz. OMEGA "SAVIOR" JIG with a small creature bait trailer. Within 20 minutes I had a limit of 2 lb KY's off that same point.

And so the hunt for upgrades began.

I finished working the point and entered the back of the pocket. The pocket was full of scattered laydowns and brush lining the banks and shallows. So with the thoughts of bedding bass in mind, I fancast to the cover sort of blind bed fishing. It didn't take long and I upgraded all of the KY's with 2.5 to 3 lb blacks and a kicker 4.5 lb hog. These fish were spawning and the key to my success was making long cast with the OMEGA "SAVIOR" Jig to likely spawning cover. I could throw that thing into the nastiest bushes, brush, and vines. Then work the cover thoroughly without hanging up and spooking the fish. I have tried other jig heads and nothing compares to the SAVIOR. I ended up with close to 15 lbs in 3 hours or so thanks to the SAVIOR.

By the way... OMEGA CUSTOM TACKLE products can be found at www.omegacustomtackle.com and they will soon be offered at local takle shops... For more information on OMEGA products contact me anytime 501-250-7283...

Water is stained to muddy up to the HWY 12 Bridge and clears up after that. The water temp is anywhere from 48 to 55 degrees depending on location... fish are biting jigs, tubes, flukes, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and jerkbaits. Anywhere from 1 to 35 feet deep. But the forcast is showing a warming trend and the majority of the fish should be heading to the banks. So get out there and give them your best cast. Be aware of the effect the moon has on spawning bass... They should be ready!!!!!
